I have until September 15, 2011 to raise as many funds as possible for my charity of choice, the Riverview Boys & Girls Club (BGC). The BGC has broken ground and is currently building a new facility to benefit the kids in my local community.

The Boys and Girls Club's mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens... From early literacy to community involvement, Boys & Girls Clubs programs tackle the inequalities Tampa Bay's youth encounter... The programs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay impact the lives of young people by helping them to develop the values, skills, attitudes, character and behavior that enable them to succeed in life. For at-risk youth, access to these activities can mean the difference between a life of bad choices and a life of positive achievement.

And some startling statistics:
Impact... It costs taxpayers $223/child per day to house a child in juvenile detention in Hillsborough County. It costs $14.42/child per day to serve a child at a Boys & Girls Club with programs in character, leadership, education, career, health, life skills, and the arts.

Hope... The graduation rate for economically disadvantaged youth in Hillsborough County is 71%. The graduation rate at Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay is 95%.

Opportunity... In 2009, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay awarded over $35,000 in college scholarships to its teen members.
